5-HTP
Your brain can't wind down if it doesn't have the raw material to do it.
5-HTP is the direct precursor to serotonin — which your body converts to melatonin. No synthetic sedation. No dependency. Just upstream support for your brain's own sleep chemistry.
5-HTP is a direct precursor to serotonin, which converts to melatonin. It's the upstream molecule your body needs to produce its own calm — naturally.
Most sleep aids force sedation. 5-HTP works with your brain chemistry, not against it.
- You struggle to mentally wind down at night
- Your mood is low or inconsistent
- You wake up mid-sleep and can't fall back
- You want melatonin support without taking melatonin directly
- You're looking for a natural serotonin precursor

How is 5-HTP different from melatonin?
Melatonin directly signals your body to feel sleepy — it's a hormone that works immediately but can disrupt your natural production over time. 5-HTP is upstream: it gives your brain the raw material to produce serotonin, which your body then converts to melatonin naturally. It supports your own sleep system rather than replacing it.
Can I take this every night?
Yes. 5-HTP is safe for nightly use. Some people choose to cycle — 5 nights on, 2 off — to avoid tolerance build-up, but this isn't required. If you're taking it for mood as much as sleep, consistent daily use tends to produce the best results over 3–4 weeks.
Why might I feel nauseous from 5-HTP?
Nausea is the most common side effect, particularly in the first week and on an empty stomach. Serotonin receptors are heavily concentrated in the gut, so the initial increase in serotonin activity can cause mild digestive discomfort. Taking it with a light snack and starting at a lower dose can reduce this significantly.
Is it safe to combine with Magnesium Glycinate?
Yes — they work through completely different pathways. Magnesium supports nervous system relaxation and muscle function. 5-HTP supports serotonin/melatonin production. They're complementary and we designed the Deep Sleep Stack around this combination specifically because neither duplicates the other's mechanism.
Who should NOT take 5-HTP?
Anyone taking SSRIs, MAOIs, or other serotonergic medications should not take 5-HTP without explicit guidance from their doctor. Combining serotonergic compounds can cause serotonin syndrome — a serious condition. If you're on any prescription medication affecting mood or serotonin, consult your physician before use.
